Our motto is “WE SERVE”

September 2, 2020Fund Raiser, Networking, optical, VolunteersBracebridge Chamber

Lions Clubs is an international, non-political service organization established in 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, by Melvin Jones and a group of civic minded businessmen.  As of April 2015, we had over 48,000 clubs and close to 1.45 million members in 190 countries around the world. As of March 2020 we are celebrating 100 years of Lions in Canada.

Closer to home our club has 38 members and so far this year we have served close to 3,500 people in 60 various activities and donated almost $26,000 back to the community last year. We did all this by volunteering over 3,000 hrs of time, NOT including the 100’s of hours we are spent on building the storage rental units.

  • Six at 10’x14’ units and eight 8’x8’ units
  • The building was constructed over nine months totally by Lions Club of Bracebridge members from scrapping the ground to installing the lights!
  • The rental cost is $76.00 a month for the 8’x8’ units and $120/month for the larger units (slightly below the current going rate in BB)

Please contact the Lions at 705 646-2394 if you are interested in renting a unit.

All funds raised by Lions Clubs from the general public are used for charitable purposes, and administrative costs are kept strictly separate and paid for by members. Lions have 5 main causes around the world and here at home:

·         Diabetes ·         Hunger
·         Vision ·         Environment
·         Childhood Cancers

We do all of this by having a lot of fun and comradery at fundraisers such as BBQs, bingo, golf tournaments, etc. Some examples of donations that support these 5 pillars of Lionism include:

  • Local Residents with Special Needs Situations such as needing dentures, ipads for autistic kids, firewood etc.
  • Donations to Manna Food Bank, Big Brother/Sister, The Pines, Children’s Wish Foundation Muskoka, Canadian Mental Health
  • Donations to Camp Huronda, camp for kids with type 1 diabetes
  • Camp Dorset Dialysis Camp
  • Vision Screening in our local schools and Aiding in the purchase of glasses
  • Glasses Recycling
  • CNIB Lake Joe
  • Donations and support to Camp Oochigeas – Camp for Kids with Cancer
  • Out of the Cold (Community) Dinners (1,200 meals) and donations to the Manna Food Bank and the Sally Anne Christmas food drive
  • Help support Annie Williams Park and planted trees in the park
  • High School Bursaries
  • Over a $150,000 has been donated  to the South Muskoka Hospital by this club
  • Local Shoebox Program
  • Local Scout and Girl Guides and Big Brothers-Big Sisters
  • Local Sports Teams
  • We are also strong supporters of the local Salvation Army Cheer Kettles Campaign and the Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil Pin Sales Campaign

We are currently helping weekly with delivering meals for the Out of the Cold project.  Our only other fund raising activity at this time is  also helping the community and the environment as we are sorting and return liquor and beer containers at the dump back to the beer store for recycling.

If you’d like to have some fun, make new friends, give back to your community and have the satisfaction of a rewarding experience, please join us. Contact bracebridgelionsclub@gmail.com or call 705 646-2394, or talk to any of your local lions, you won’t regret it.
