Good day everyone,
Small Businesses, Big Presences
40 of Muskoka’s Newest Small Businesses Set to Gather during Small Business Week in October
Open for Business Expo continues to grow in its third year – and it’s slated to be bigger and better than ever before with a record number of exhibitors, amazing door prizes to be won and the opportunity to shop local while helping new businesses flourish. A tradeshow-style event, Muskoka-based small businesses that have opened in the past five years will be on display on Thursday, October 20 at the Active Living Centre in Huntsville.
One of Huntsville’s best known small businesses, That Little Place by the Lights, will be featured as the Expo’s guest speaker for exhibitors. Having just expanded their restaurant to include a gelato bar and market, owner Laurus and his son Manny will share their story of how they got from a start-up to the successful family-owned and operated Italian restaurant they are today.
This year’s hosts include Muskoka Small Business Centre, Muskoka Futures and Muskoka Community Network – organizations that work to support the small business community in the region through loan and grant programs, workshops and events aimed at helping entrepreneurs start, grow and succeed. Exhibitors are comprised of clients of the three host organizations, as well as clients of the larger initiative, the Muskoka Biz Series.
The Muskoka Biz Series is a collaboration between key community stakeholders who serve the small business community in the area. A variety of events have been organized during Small Business Week by the Muskoka Biz Series, which takes place October 17 – 21. In addition to the Open for Business Expo, events include a Muskoka-wide Business After Hours and Wild About Technology, an event for kids that will expose them to new technologies like 3D colouring, 3D pens, the green screen and more. More events are being announced shortly and details for Small Business Week can be found at www.MuskokaBizSeries.ca.
